US To Fund Up To $452M For Small Nuclear Reactor Designs

Law360, New York (January 20, 2012, 7:07 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Energy will provide up to $452 million to help fund the design of small modular nuclear reactors as part of a continuing push for safer nuclear energy providers in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster in Japan, the department announced Friday.

The department announced a draft funding opportunity announcement to strike cost-shared deals with private nuclear energy companies to design and license up to two small modular nuclear reactors aimed to be deployed by 2022.
