Navy Must Further Analyze $80B Destroyer Plan: GAO

Law360, New York (January 24, 2012, 7:55 PM EST) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office has told the U.S. Navy to re-evaluate its decision to spend potentially $80 billion on procuring 43 Arleigh Burke class destroyers, according to a report released Tuesday.

After spending nearly $10 billion in developing Zumwalt class destroyers, the Navy changed its mind and decided to instead restart production of Arleigh Burke class destroyers and build a new version, known as Flight III, according to the report.
