PNC Strikes To Head Off Mobile Banking Patent Suit

Law360, New York (January 26, 2012, 3:12 PM ET) -- PNC Financial Services Group Inc. hit Maxim Integrated Products Inc. with a suit in Pennsylvania federal court Wednesday, seeking to avoid becoming Maxim’s latest target of patent litigation over mobile payment and banking applications.

PNC’s declaratory judgment suit claims that not only has it not infringed four patents owned by semiconductor maker Maxim, but that the patents in question are invalid. PNC received a letter from Maxim on Dec. 2 claiming that PNC’s iPhone app and other mobile banking apps infringe Maxim’s patents.
