Plastic Surgeons In Italy Sue Over Faulty Breast Implants

Law360, New York (February 1, 2012, 9:00 PM EST) -- Italy's plastic surgeons association reportedly sued now-defunct French company Poly Implant Prothese, which manufactured faulty breast implants, and Germany's TUV Rheinland, which certified the implants, in a Rome court Wednesday.

PIP halted production of the implants in March 2010 after regulators discovered it had used silicone meant for industrial rather than medical use. More than 300,000 PIP implants were sold around the world, with many going to Europe and about half going to South America, according to Britain's National Health Service.
