Ex-Ala. Gov. Again Appeals Bribery Conviction To High Court

Law360, New York (February 1, 2012, 7:13 PM EST) -- Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman on Wednesday filed a new appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court over his conviction in an alleged bribery scheme involving HealthSouth Corp. founder Richard Scrushy.

Petitioning for a writ of certiorari, Siegelman questioned whether campaign contributions can be prosecuted as bribes under the statutes used against him and argued that an Eleventh Circuit opinion last year upholding much of his conviction may have run afoul of the Supreme Court's 1991 decision in McCormick v. United States.
