Honeywell Hits Rival With Thermostat Patent Suit

Law360, New York (February 06, 2012, 8:31 PM ET) -- April 12 --- PR ---- Claiming Nest Labs Inc. illegally capitalized on its thermostat innovations, technology giant Honeywell Inc. sued its smaller rival and the retailer promoting and selling the products, alleging patent infringement in Minnesota federal court Monday.

Honeywell accuses Nest and Best Buy Co. of violating seven patents relating to thermostat technology, including controlling a thermostat remotely, displaying the time it will take to reach a desired temperature and storing data information based on habits and preferences, according to the complaint.
