Maine Ocean Power Project May Conflict With Fishing: USCG

Law360, New York (February 7, 2012, 1:50 PM EST) -- The U.S. Coast Guard may have to restrict commercial fishing activities around a tidal energy pilot project under development in Maine near the Bay of Fundy, it said Friday.

The proposed pilot project, in which privately held energy developer Ocean Renewable Power Co. LLC will build a pilot commercial-sized turbine in a waterway along the U.S.-Canada border to generate electricity from tides, won't affect vessels on the surface but will obstruct the waterway below the surface, the Coast Guard said.
