Bill Would Require DOD To Use US-Made Steel

Law360, Los Angeles (February 9, 2012, 5:43 PM EST) -- A group of U.S. senators on Thursday introduced legislation that would require the military to purchase steel armor plating — used on vehicles, tanks and other equipment — that was produced domestically.

The measure introduced by Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, requires steel purchased for military use to be both melted and finished in the U.S. The legislation would reverse a 2009 decision by the U.S. Department of Defense that permitted the military to use steel that had been melted in foreign countries.
