European Commission Refuses To Rewrite Software Patent Bill

Law360, New York (February 28, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission has refused to rewrite a controversial bill that would allow embedded software to be patented, setting the stage for a battle with the European Parliament.

In a letter distributed on Friday, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso told the president of the European Parliament that its request for a full-fledged restart of the legislative process to introduce the controversial law would not be accepted.
