Best Buy Customers Lose Cert. Bid In ZIP Code Action

Law360, New York (February 13, 2012, 5:53 PM ET) -- A group of plaintiffs accusing Best Buy Co. Inc. of illegally requesting customers’ personal information failed to gain certification Monday, when a California federal judge found the proposed class was too broad.

Although the proposed class was too broad, a differently defined class might gain certification, and the individuals in the case are free to pursue claims on their own, U.S. District Judge S. James Otero said in an order denying class certification.
