WIPO To Redraft Rome Convention On Broadcast Copyrights

Law360, New York (November 12, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- Member countries of the World Intellectual Property Organization have asked its secretariat to draft an update of the 1961 Rome convention covering broadcast copyrights, the Financial Times reported in its Thursday edition.

The draft, expected to be ready in June of next year, would form the basis of a possible diplomatic conference to adopt a new pact, perhaps in 2005, according to the newspaper.

The goal of the revamped regulation is to take account of technological developments including cable and distribution of programming over the internet....
