San Francisco Foreclosure Probe Shows Sweeping Law Violations

Law360, New York (February 15, 2012, 11:37 PM EST) -- Roughly 84 percent of some 400 foreclosures in San Francisco have violated California foreclosure laws and called for greater legislative oversight of the mortgage industry, San Francisco County officials said Wednesday.

The findings came from a report based on a fall investigation of the city's foreclosures between 2009 and 2011, after the Assessor-Recorder’s Office, which keeps official public records of property ownership, found that there were irregularities in documents that homeowners facing foreclosure were seeking in order to modify or refinance their loans, San Francisco Assessor-Recorder...
