Alaska Could Hold More Shale Oil Than Eagle Ford: US

Law360, New York (February 24, 2012, 8:06 PM EST) -- The North Slope of Alaska's shale formations could hold up to 2 billion barrels of oil, the U.S. Geological Survey said Friday, revealing the region could have more oil than Texas's Eagle Ford, according to another recent USGS estimate.

Alaska's untapped North Slope also contains up to 80 trillion cubic feet of gas, the USGS found, in the agency's first estimate of recoverable onshore shale and gas resources in the region. While the North Slope has yet to be explored because of economic and infrastructure concerns,...
