China, Taiwan Prepare For New Data Protection Laws

Law360, New York (March 1, 2012, 6:50 PM EST) -- China and Taiwan are moving closer to implementing new laws that heighten data security, breach notice and consent obligations for companies, with the Chinese law to be finalized in two weeks and a recent presidential election stalling the Taiwanese regulation.

As part of a recent wave of countries working to enact stricter and more uniformed privacy regulations, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved a regulation, effective March 15, that will include significant data protection requirements applicable to Internet information service providers.
