GSK Shakes EU Scrutiny In Generics Delay Probe

Law360, New York (March 2, 2012, 3:36 PM EST) -- The European Commission has called off its probe into whether GlaxoSmithKline PLC paid off rivals to forestall the release of their cheaper generics after competing drugmaker Synthon withdrew its antitrust allegations, the regulator said Friday.

The commission administratively closed its investigation into allegations that the British pharmaceutical giant engaged in antitrust activity by attempting to pay competitors such as Netherlands-based Synthon to delay the release of their generics.
