Ex-NFL Player Takes Benefits Fight To 11th Circ.

Law360, New York (March 7, 2012, 10:16 PM EST) -- Former New Orleans Saints linebacker Willie Grant on Monday asked the Eleventh Circuit to reverse a district court order backing the National Football League Player Retirement Plan’s denial of line-of-duty disability benefits for Grant.

In a brief filed with the appeals court, Grant said that despite showing ample medical evidence that his injuries — sustained during his short NFL career — exceed the 25 percent whole-body impairment threshold needed for qualifying for line-of-duty benefits, the retirement plan denied him the partial disability benefits.
