Lawmakers Demand Info On Agencies' Email Monitoring Rules

Law360, New York (March 06, 2012, 6:27 PM ET) -- Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., asked the Obama administration Monday to determine federal agencies' polices regarding the monitoring of employee emails, citing concerns about whistleblower intimidation following allegations that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration wrongly monitored whistleblowers' emails.

The request comes on the heels of a lawsuit in which former and current FDA employees and contractors accuse the agency of spying on their correspondence — even from personal email accounts — with Congress and others about product safety concerns.
