Dell Buys PE-Owned SonicWALL To Boost Security Chops

Law360, New York (March 13, 2012, 1:20 PM EDT) -- Computer giant Dell Inc. has agreed to buy SonicWALL Inc., a provider of data backup and online firewalls, from private equity firm Thoma Bravo LLC, the parties said Tuesday.

SonicWALL, which competes with Cisco Systems Inc. to provide corporate cyber-security must-haves, fetched $717 million from Chicago-based Thoma Bravo and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in June 2010. 

Financial terms of the Dell sale were not disclosed. It is expected to close within the next 45 days.
