Stryker's Wingspan Stent May Raise Stroke Risk, FDA Says

Law360, New York (March 21, 2012, 9:08 PM EDT) -- Medical technology company Stryker Corp.’s Wingspan stent used to prevent strokes may come with increased stroke risks that outweigh their potential benefits, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday.

The agency said that the use of the stent in some cases was found to have no benefit over other medical treatments, and pointed to studies that had indicated higher incidents of strokes in patients treated with the stent, in materials that it had prepared ahead of its March 23 panel meeting to discuss the safety...
