US Oil Cos. Said To Be Eyeing Pipeline Through Afghanistan

Law360, New York (March 23, 2012, 6:08 PM EDT) -- Two major U.S. oil companies are interested in backing a 1,040-mile pipeline that would carry gas from Turkmenistan to India through dangerous swaths of Afghanistan, a U.S. Department of State official reportedly said on Friday.

Daniel Stein, a State Department senior advisor, declined to name the two companies, according to a Reuters report, but one analyst told Law360 that Chevron Corp. was the most likely candidate.
