GAO Calls For Greater Oversight Of Fuel-Gathering Pipes

Law360, New York (March 23, 2012, 4:08 PM EDT) -- A U.S. Government Accountability Office report released Thursday said federal regulators should collect more safety information about 200,000 miles of mostly rural natural gas and hazardous liquid gathering pipelines that now go unregulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The DOT's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration doesn't regulate the vast majority of the nation's natural gas and oil gathering pipelines, which transport fuel from production sites to processing facilities and larger transmission pipelines, according to the report.
