San Diego Alleges Fraud, Sues Willkie Farr for $29M

Law360, New York (August 13, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- San Diego's city attorney has filed two malpractice suits against New York law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher for $29.3 million, alleging fraud and negligence related to an investigation into the city's vastly underfunded employee pension plan.

The essentially identical suits allege that Willkie Farr intentionally overcharged the city for services provided during the investigation, performed tasks that were not asked for in the original contract, and hid that activity from city officials by submitting billing statements that did not detail the work being done....
