Biomet Inks $23M Deal In Latest Doctor Bribery Sting

Law360, New York (March 26, 2012, 1:08 PM EDT) -- Biomet Inc. on Monday joined a growing list of health care companies snared in a foreign corruption probe, reaching a $22.7 million settlement with U.S. regulators over claims it bribed publicly employed Latin American and Chinese doctors to buy its medical devices.

The U.S. Department of Justice said it had filed and settled a criminal complaint through a $17.3 million deferred prosecution agreement. Biomet also reached a $5.4 million settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in a related civil case filed Monday.
