Sens. Want Feds To Probe Employer Facebook Info Demands

Law360, New York (March 26, 2012, 4:02 PM EDT) -- Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., on Monday called for federal agencies to investigate whether employers who demand access to job applicants' Facebook accounts before making a hiring decision violate privacy, fraud or anti-discrimination laws. 

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission should examine whether the practice violates laws that prohibit hiring decisions based on a person's religious views, national origin, gender, marital status, age or other personal characteristics, they said.
