UK Competition Watchdog Wants New Rules Before Overhaul

Law360, New York (March 28, 2012, 7:31 PM EDT) -- A U.K. competition watchdog on Wednesday proposed new rules targeting potential bias in violation decisions, in a move expected to help set the stage for a major reorganization of the country's antitrust regulatory structure.

The proposed changes to the Office of Fair Trading would precede the much larger overhaul planned by the creation of the Competition and Markets Authority. The new agency, formally announced by the government earlier this month, will be formed by merging OFT with the country's Competition Commission.
