GAO Warns Of Risks In Shell’s Arctic Drilling Plans

Law360, New York (March 30, 2012, 7:19 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office expressed worries over Shell Gulf of Mexico Inc.'s drilling plans in the Arctic this summer, warning in a report released Friday that oil exploration off Alaska's coast would pose unique environmental and logistical risks.

The GAO noted in its report that the oil and gas industry had improved its capabilities to respond to a subsea well blowout in the Gulf of Mexico, but Arctic operations would be wholly different.
