Medical Campaign Presses Docs To Stop Unneeded Testing

Law360, Washington (April 4, 2012, 8:15 PM EDT) -- Nine medical groups on Wednesday launched a campaign urging U.S. doctors to stop overprescribing 45 medical tests that the groups deemed unnecessarily common and relatively unfruitful when used as a precautionary measure for patients.

The specialty groups, which represent 375,000 physicians, have united with the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation and Consumer Reports for the “Choosing Wisely” campaign, which hopes to foster communication between physicians and patients about treatment decisions.
