USTR Telecom Report Questions Local Manufacturing Mandates

Law360, New York (April 4, 2012, 6:44 PM EDT) -- U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said Wednesday that Mexico had made progress in resolving a longstanding trade dispute with U.S.-based telecommunications providers, but expressed worry over limits to trade that come with countries forcing suppliers to use locally made telecommunications equipment.

Kirk announced the release of the USTR's annual report outlining the state of trade in the telecommunications industry, and said that progress was being made in Mexico, which has recently settled access disputes with a U.S.-based phone service provider.
