Finnegan's Eyewear Patent Advice Shortsighted, Inventor Says

Law360, New York (April 10, 2012, 7:34 PM EDT) -- The Massachusetts inventor behind Framescape eyewear accused Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett & Dunner LLP on Tuesday of creating a conflict of interest by simultaneously advising the eyeglasses company and its rival Masunaga Optical Mfg. Co. Ltd. on similar patent applications.

In a complaint filed in Massachusetts federal court, Chris E. Maling — inventor and president of the Framescape brand’s parent company Formula LLC — claims Finnegan breached its fiduciary duty by representing two rival eyewear companies, without disclosing to either the firm’s dual representations.
