Key EU Lawmaker Denounces Global IP Anti-Piracy Treaty

Law360, New York (April 12, 2012, 6:11 PM EDT) -- A top European Union lawmaker designated as the European Parliament's point man on the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement said on Thursday he would recommend that the legislative body vote against the controversial accord because it does not provide enough protections for citizens.

David Martin of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats, the second largest voting bloc in the Parliament, made the announcement after a conference with representatives from industry, unions, Internet groups, non-governmental organizations and others concerned about the effects of the agreement.
