9th Circ. Expedites DOMA Review In Same-Sex Benefits Case

Law360, New York (April 13, 2012, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit on Wednesday agreed to expedite a challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act, two months after a California federal judge upheld the right of a federal employee's wife to enroll in her same-sex partner's health insurance plan.

The two-judge panel consolidated two appeals from the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Office of Personnel Management on the matter. Attorneys are required to provide briefs over the summer, and a hearing is set for the week of Sept....
