US Lets Up On Rules Blocking Humanitarian Aid To Myanmar

Law360, New York (April 17, 2012, 5:46 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government on Tuesday relaxed financial restrictions against Myanmar to allow humanitarian and other aid groups access to the country, the latest global response to recent democratic and humanitarian reform in the Southeast Asian nation.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a notice authorizing nonprofit groups to provide the people of Myanmar with food, shelter, medicine, education services and other noncommercial development programs. The U.S. said it would also allow religious groups to deliver aid.
