US Cable Industry Like A Cartel, 9th Circ. Hears

Law360, New York (April 18, 2012, 3:11 PM EDT) -- The Parents Television Council urged the Ninth Circuit on Monday to rehear an appeal of a proposed antitrust class action seeking to force pay-TV providers to sell channels individually, saying the cable industry operates like a cartel that dictates contractual restraints on distributors and customers.

The PTC, along with an alliance of other family organizations, lodged an amicus brief for review and filed a motion to become friends of the court, asserting that consumers shouldn’t be forced to buy bundles of programing they don’t want....
