UK Geology Experts Back Fracking With Strings Attached

Law360, New York (April 17, 2012, 6:46 PM EDT) -- An expert panel commissioned by the U.K. to explore the risks of shale gas exploration, more commonly known as hydraulic fracturing or "fracking," recommended Tuesday that the controversial fossil-fuel extraction procedure be allowed subject to monitoring and certain restrictions.

The study was organized by the U.K. Department of Energy and Climate Change after two small earthquakes occurred at a Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. hydraulic fracturing project site near Blackpool last April and May.
