Exxon Makes One Last Appeal Over Valdez Spill

Law360, New York (August 22, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a last-gasp attempt to overturn a $2.5 billion punitive damages award, Exxon Mobil Corp. has asked the Supreme Court to take a case brought against it by fishermen and other Alaskans for the 1989 Valdez tanker spill.

Exxon Mobil said in a writ of certiorari filed Monday that the case raised issues of both Constitutional dimension and maritime law, and that it therefore should be heard by the Supreme Court.
