EU Approves $2.2B Sony-Led EMI Buy After Concessions

Law360, New York (April 19, 2012, 2:52 PM EDT) -- The European Union’s antitrust regulator on Thursday gave the go-ahead to the $2.2 billion acquisition of the music publishing arm of EMI Group Ltd. by Sony Corp. of America and investment fund Mubadala Development Co. PJSC, after the companies agreed to a series of divestitures.

The decision by the European Commission to clear the deal under EU merger regulations is conditional upon the dispossession of the global publishing rights to four catalogs and the musical works of 12 contemporary authors, according to the EC.
