Thirst For Power Quenched, Dubai Defers $1.3B Gas Plant

Law360, New York (April 19, 2012, 2:10 PM EDT) -- Dubai Electric and Water Authority will hold off indefinitely on building the $1.3 billion Hassyan independent power and water project, saying Wednesday that increased capacity at existing plants and reduced demand have eliminated the need for the 1,500-megawatt facility.

With Dubai's energy demands satisfied, the nation will save on capital and operational costs associated with the proposed electricity-generating project, according to the state-run DEWA.
