GOP Seeks Dem Backing For Medicare Premium Support Plans

Law360, New York (April 27, 2012, 2:57 PM EDT) -- Republicans on the House Ways and Means subcommittee on health, which oversees Medicare, held a hearing Friday in an attempt to shore up support for so-called premium support proposals, in which traditional Medicare would compete with private insurers on a government-regulated exchange.

Republicans have been pushing toward a premium support model, led by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis. Ryan's premium support proposal has won the support of Democratic Rep. Ron Wyden of Oregon. Most Democrats, however, oppose the idea, accusing Republicans of trying to kill Medicare altogether....
