Abertis Makes $2B Deal For Toll Projects In Brazil, Chile

Law360, New York (April 25, 2012, 1:28 PM EDT) -- Spanish toll road giant Abertis Infraestructuras SA will pick up nine concession projects in Brazil and Chile from smaller rival Obrascon Huarte Lain SA in a mostly-stock deal valued at €1.6 billion ($2.1 billion), the company said Wednesday.

The Barcelona-based builder will pay for the buy with 10 percent of its own shares and some cash, as well as the assumption of project debt. The buy gives Abertis a presence in Brazil's fast-growing market and helps balance its 12,000-mile portfolio away from Europe.
