Law360, New York (April 25, 2012, 5:18 PM ET) -- More than two dozen senators issued a plea on Wednesday for the U.S. Department of Defense to better utilize civilian employees as an alternative to contract personnel, urging the agency to abolish a cap limiting the civilian workforce to fiscal year 2010 levels.
Led by Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, the lawmakers sent a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta expressing concern that the department plans to cut back civilian workers without posing any similar restraints on the workforce hired through contracts.
