Law360, New York (May 11, 2012, 5:49 PM ET) -- The New York State Senate's passage of a bill to keep Voice over Internet Protocol unregulated — a move backers say would foster competition — led a lawmaker Friday to call for an investigation into whether a free-market group that crafted model VoIP legislation is illegally lobbying.
State Sen. Daniel Squadron, D-Manhattan, said the conservative, Washington-based American Legislative Exchange Council, whose model VoIP deregulation bill bears similarities in key places to the one on the move in Albany, appeared to be influencing state politics.
