Inside NJ’s Trade Secrets Act

Law360, New York (May 24, 2012, 1:01 PM ET) -- In January, Gov. Chris Christie signed into law the New Jersey Trade Secrets Act to help bolster trade secret protection in New Jersey. The act creates a civil action for misappropriation of trade secrets, whereby an aggrieved party may seek damages against those who improperly acquire or disclose trade secrets.

The act defines “trade secret” as information, such as formulas, programs, methods, designs, inventions, drawings and prototypes, that derives independent economic value from not being generally known to or readily and properly ascertainable by others, and...
