Law360, San Diego (May 21, 2012, 7:45 PM ET) -- A California bill that would develop safety and performance standards for operating driverless vehicles, such as those planned by Google Inc. and several auto manufacturers, cruised through the state Senate on Monday.
In a 37-0 vote, the full Senate passed S.B. 1298, carried by Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Pacoima, that seeks to allow licensed drivers to operate autonomous vehicles on roads and highways and permit the California Highway Patrol to work with the state Department of Motor Vehicles to recommend additional safety requirements for the cars....
