Law360, New York (May 22, 2012, 6:58 PM ET) -- The governor of Maryland signed a bill Tuesday banning the use of an arsenic-containing chicken feed additive, made by Pfizer Inc. subsidiary Alpharma LLC, on the basis of food safety and environmental concerns.
The bill, passed last month, prevents the use of the drug roxarsone, which contains arsenic. Proponents of the bill claim the additive poses an environmental threat to the Chesapeake Bay, as well as water and soil in the state.
