Rakoff Punts On Primary Global Exec's Bid For New Trial

Law360, New York (May 22, 2012, 6:16 PM ET) -- U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff ruled Monday that he had no authority to grant convicted ex-Primary Global Research LLC consultant Winifred Jiau a new trial, deferring to a higher court to rule on her request.

Jiau was found guilty on charges of conspiracy and securities fraud by a New York jury in June 2011 for selling hedge fund managers tips about technology company earnings in advance of public announcements.
