Law360, New York (May 22, 2012, 6:16 PM ET) -- U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff ruled Monday that he had no authority to grant convicted ex-Primary Global Research LLC consultant Winifred Jiau a new trial, deferring to a higher court to rule on her request.
Jiau was found guilty on charges of conspiracy and securities fraud by a New York jury in June 2011 for selling hedge fund managers tips about technology company earnings in advance of public announcements. In September, she was sentenced to four years in prison followed by two years of supervised release....
