NJ Panel Advances Bill Speeding Class Cert. Appeals

Law360, New York (May 23, 2012, 7:12 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey Assembly panel on Monday approved legislation that would give adversaries in class action litigation the right to immediately appeal decisions granting or denying class certification.

While several attorneys who spoke with Law360 on Wednesday noted that the bill covers state courts and the bulk of class actions end up in federal court, they backed the proposal because it would allow parties that do square off in state court to quickly challenge the certification decisions that can often make or break such litigation....
