Commerce Finds Samsung, LG Get Unfair Washer Subsidies

Law360, New York (May 30, 2012, 5:40 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce on Wednesday preliminarily agreed with Whirlpool Corp.'s claim that Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., LG Electronics Inc. and Daewoo Electronics Corp. had received state subsidizes that allowed them to sell unfairly cheap washing machines in the U.S.

Commerce's International Trade Administration echoed the sentiments of the U.S. International Trade Commission, which said in February in its parallel investigation that it believed submarket-priced washing machines from the South Korean giants had hurt American manufacturers.
