Law360, New York (May 31, 2012, 5:55 PM ET) -- The Fifth Circuit on Wednesday denied consolidated petitions by environmental groups challenging decisions by federal agencies to approve offshore oil drilling plans in the Gulf of Mexico during and after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster.
The appeals court said the 16 petitions for review brought by the Gulf Restoration Network Inc., Sierra Club Inc. and Center for Biological Diversity are either moot or invalid because the groups did not participate in U.S. Department of the Interior administrative proceedings during the plan approval process.
