Law360, New York (May 31, 2012, 9:21 PM ET) -- West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc.'s antitrust lawsuit against rival University of Pittsburgh Medical Center remains alive after a federal judge on Wednesday denied UPMC's request to stay the suit due to a pending $475 million acquisition of West Penn by insurer Highmark Inc.
UPMC had argued that the suit should be stayed until after the pending acquisition of West Penn by Pittsburgh-based insurer Highmark. U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti rejected the motion from the bench Wednesday, according to UPMC spokesman Paul Wood.
