Sonicview On The Hook For $65M In Dish Piracy Case

Law360, New York (June 01, 2012, 1:27 PM ET) -- A federal judge in California slapped Sonicview USA Inc. with a $65 million judgment on Thursday, ruling in favor of Dish Network LLC in a case that accused Sonicview of selling piracy devices designed to thwart security measures and let users steal copyrighted Dish programming.

U.S. District Judge M. James Lorenz granted a bid for summary judgment from the plaintiffs — Dish Network, EchoStar Technologies LLC and NagraStar LLC — on claims brought under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and federal Communications Act.
